2024 Annual Report
Welcome Message from Our CEO
In 2024, we marked 45 years of serving families with critically ill children. As our CEO Laura Keegan Boudreau reflects, our commitment has always been rooted in listening to what families truly need. From her own childhood experience navigating medical care with a sick sibling, Laura shares how the mission of RMHC Bay Area is deeply personal and profoundly important.
This year, we focused on creating welcoming spaces near hospitals, nourishing more families, and embracing innovative ways to meet increasingly complex needs. As we enter our next chapter, we do so with gratitude and determination—knowing that our community stands beside us.
“Whether you’ve been here since day one, or joined us along the way, we’re excited to enter our next 45 years with you.” — Laura Keegan Boudreau, CEO
A Message from Our Board President
During the global celebration of RMHC’s 50th anniversary, Board President Katty Coulson was reminded of the powerful mission we all share: to support families in crisis, remove barriers, and promote healing. Inspired by founder Dr. Audrey Evans, RMHC has grown into a global movement—and RMHC Bay Area is proud to be part of that legacy.
In 2024, our team continued to evolve in response to family needs, guided by empathy, listening, and community.
“We are all a part of the RMHC legacy of care, compassion and hope.” — Katty Coulson, Board President

Did You Know?
56% of families with a child being treated at one of our partner hospitals reported food insecurity at home. This problem is only exacerbated during medical crisis, which is why we’re committed to providing free, nutritious meals at our Houses and in-hospital programs.
We delivered these services through our:
Family Story
The Sylva-Kanagusuku Family
When Kinsley was diagnosed with a rare seizure disorder, her family traveled over 2,500 miles from Hawaii to seek care at Stanford. Navigating financial strain and medical complexity, they found relief and belonging at Ronald McDonald House Bay Area.
With meals, supportive programs, and a sense of home, their family could focus on healing and hope. Kinsley’s mom, Jennifer, calls RMHC an “island of normal in a sea of chaos.”
“The Ronald McDonald House community is something we will always remember.” — Jennifer Sylva-Kanagusuku, RMHC Mom
Program Spotlight
Feed the Love
In 2024, our Feed the Love program received the RMHC Global Local Programs Impact Award for its innovative approach to family-centered care. Since 2020, we’ve partnered with hunger relief orgs and local caterers to deliver hot, nutritious meals directly to hospital rooms.
Last year, we served over 75,000 in-hospital meals, ensuring that caregivers could stay nourished without leaving their child’s bedside. These meals nourish bodies and souls, relieving financial and emotional stress.
Feed the Love is more than a meal—it’s a reminder that families are never alone.
Donor Recognition
Brad’s Park
In October 2024, we opened Brad’s Park at Ronald McDonald House Stanford to honor longtime board member and donor, Brad Lyman. This beautiful outdoor space provides accessible recreation for families—from Big Wheels to wheelchairs.
With features like a giant chessboard, walking labyrinth, and plenty of room to explore, Brad’s Park has brought joy and movement to countless children and caregivers.
“Some heroes wear capes; others wear a Ronald McDonald House badge.” — Adina Flores, RMHC Mom
Volunteer Impact
Happy Wheels Carts
Our Happy Wheels Carts bring comfort and care directly to hospital rooms with snacks, toiletries, and toys. Launched over 20 years ago, this volunteer-powered program continues to expand across our partner hospitals.
Volunteers like Trinity, Pam, and Alice reflect on the joy of connecting with families and easing their day, one cart visit at a time.
“Bringing a moment of happiness to a parent or child is the best part of this volunteer experience.” — Alice, Volunteer
